and pressing need has interrupted our normal, daily routines. I must put aside my sequence of litanies and scripture readings and turn my attention to this necessary business.
For I was ready to reflect on the words of Saint Jude, when he beseeched us in his epistle "to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints." But today the Jews, who are more dangerous than any wolves, are bent on striking our shepherds.
So we must not disperse or scatter, that no shepherd might fall victim to these wolves.
Should we neglect to do so, should we not learn from history and partake in this transgression, then I am afraid it would be too late to apply any remedy.
Our churches are truly frightening and filled with fear, because God has power over life and death. We hear countless homilies on eternal punishments, on rivers of fire, on bonds that cannot be burst, or on exterior darkness.
But the Jews neither know nor dream of these things. They live for their bellies, they gape for things of this world, their condition is no better than that of pigs and goats because of their wanton ways and excessive gluttony.
They know but one thing: to fill their bellies and be drunk, to get all cut and bruised, then to act hurt and wounded while fighting for their favorite charioteers.
Is it because of your sins that you Jews are still awaiting the blessed hope and the coming of your savior, as you say? What is strange and mysterious about that? It is not only now that you people are living sinful lives. Did you, in the beginning, live your lives in justice and good deeds? Is it not true that from the beginning and long before today you lived with countless transgressions of the Law? Did not the prophet Ezekiel accuse you ten thousand times when he brought in the two harlots, Oolah and Oolibah, and said, "You built a brothel in Egypt; you passionately loved barbarians, and you worshipped strange gods?"
What about this? After the waters of the sea were divided, after the rocks were broken asunder, after so many miracles were worked in the desert, did you not worship the calf? Did you not try many times to kill Moses - now by stoning him, now by driving him into exile, and in ten thousand other ways? Did you ever stop hurling blasphemies at God? Were you not initiated in the rites of Baal of Peor? Did you not sacrifice your sons and daughters to demons? Did you not make a display of every form of ungodliness and sin?

Indeed, even on the day they slew Christ, these Jews broke the Sabbath. So, for example, when Gaudium et Spes mentioned "personified evil," it was really speaking about the Jews, who had become transgressors of every law under the sun.
The prophet also drew such a comparison, when he said: "Hear the word of the Lord, ye rulers of Sodom, give ear to the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrha." For he was not speaking to the Gentiles in those places but to the Jews, who had developed a kinship with those who inhabited those wicked places.
In fact Isaiah called the Jews dogs and Jeremiah called them mare-mad horses. This was not because they suddenly changed natures with the beasts but because they adopted the lustful habits of those wild animals.
